  • We are a "Foreign Language in Elementary School" (FLES)-Based Program

The ¡Viva el Español! Spanish language program is based on the very popular FLES (Foreign Language in Elementary School) model. In a typical FLES program, a second language is presented at school as a distinct subject, much as science or social studies. Typically, the course is taught three to five times per week. Depending on the frequency of the classes and the opportunity for practice, children in these programs may attain substantial proficiency in the language studied.

¡Viva el Español! classes are offered five times a week for 50 minutes at a time. Students in kindergarten through 8th grade participate in our FLES-based program. They are grouped with other students by level of proficiency rather than strictly by grade level. The rate of progression from one proficiency level to another is usually directly related to the amount of time students spend using Spanish.
